After our morning outing yesterday, John went to the hotel bank to exchange our dollars into yuan. I would recommend that if you are traveling to China that you get a little bit of yuan when you arrive at the airport. We arrived so late that the banks were closed for the day. Gabby was hungry and we didn't have any money to go over to the 7 Eleven. I suppose we could have gotten something from the hotel, but for some reason we didn't.
So, anyway while John waited in line at the bank, Gabby and I sat down in a beautiful sitting area that had a waterfall that you could see from our seats. A waitress from the bar came over to give us a menu, but she never returned. Gabby and I were both thirsty, so I got up and walked directly over to the bar to order something which got us the strangest look from the bar tenders. I ignored the strange looks and ordered a pepsi for me and and ice water for Gabby. The pepsi was easy. The bar tender pulled one out of the fridge and set it in an area for a waitress to pick it up. I'm quickly learning about water though. Asking for ice water won't always get you plain water with ice. First, you will only get ice about half the time. Secondly, you only get plain water half the time. The other half you get club soda which isn't for Gabby.
I noticed that instead of a bottled water, the bartender had set out a club soda. This was the second time this had happened, so I waved at the bartender and tried to explain that we wanted a bottled water. She wasn't getting it. Finally I said Evian or Perrier? She understood that and switched the waters and then ushered me and Gabby back to our seats.
